About this line
The line is buried in Thoreau’s first book, which sold so badly he carted the unsold copies home himself — later joking he had a library of nearly nine hundred volumes, most of them his own. His sharpest thought about imagination almost disappeared with it.

He buried his sharpest line about imagination in a book nobody bought. I like rescuing the ones that got away.
The design
‘dreams’ is set in a light, slanted italic, in cream. ‘awake.’ stands upright and solid, in a warm matte gold. One word drifts; the other stands its ground.
The two are stacked so tight they touch: the k in ‘awake’ rises up into ‘dreams’. You can’t pull them apart, and that’s Thoreau’s point.
The tee and the sweatshirt carry the same design.
